Alex Washburn

Drummer - singer - songwriter - producer

Location: Western Massachusetts

My love of music began early in life. Growing up listening to bands like Zeppelin, The Doors and Pink Floyd fueled a deep interest in musical experimentation and percussion, that has only grown over the years. I got my first drumset for my 10th birthday, and I've been playing now nonstop for 20 years. Bonham, Mitchell, Danny Carey, Jon Theodore, Densmore; these are the drummers that continue to inspire me and make me strive for more.

While drumming is my core, my passion for music extends well beyond percussion. I've been singing and playing guitar for years. My voice falls somewhere in the baritone range, comparable to Jim Morrison, Josh Homme, Julian Casablancas, but with its' own unique character. I can bring the gravel, smooth crooning, falsetto, whatever the music calls for.

Ever since I've owned a trashy USB microphone in my mid-teens, I've been writing and recording my own music. I've acquired more gear and knowledge over the years, and I feel relatively confident in my ability to get the music that enters my head into a recording software (Logic Pro X). While I'm no trained professional in recording techniques, I certainly have my own style developed at this point, and I find solace in the fact that my style may be imperfect, but it is mine, and I worked hard to find it.

Like many, I've been in a lot of bands over the years that have had very little traction as far as recording / releasing songs or garnering a lasting reputation goes, but in navigating those bands I've learned how to work with other musicians in the studio and on stage. It can be tough to gather a group of musicians / artists and expect everyone to get along, it requires a careful and sensitive approach that not everyone has. I'd like to think I have it.

On December 19th, 2024 I released my first self-produced solo album under the name Snakes Like You, an experimental rock project that is the culmination of the past 6 years of writing demos / trial and error in production techniques, and I'm also the drummer of Bliss 42. One of my last original bands was Shaman Says, a hard rock trio in which I was the singer and the drummer. My music demos were chosen by Converse to track a 3 - song EP at Rubber Tracks in Boston, and we laid it down in a single day. The band gigged in Central Massachusetts for a couple of years until our bassist moved out west. Trios are an interesting experiment, there's a lot of space to fill so everyone has to do two jobs at once. It proved a fun challenge. I'm always looking for more challenges.

I'm available for studio work, drumming, singing, collaboration, etc. Please feel free to contact me with any inquiries / questions and I will return your email ASAP.
